“Physic” – Advertising Sign

“Physic” – Advertising Sign

A psychic in a town close by had an office. Nice location on a busy corner. Had one of them $100 dollar vinyl signs to advertise her business, Palm Reader, Tarot Cards, Tea Leaves, and Physic!!!!

I saw the sign but couldn’t believe it. Went around the block and checked it again. Yeah, that’s what it said!

“Physic”

Now, my take on this was ‘she must not be real adept at being a Physic…. I mean psychic’.

Why?

  • She didn’t foresee the sign painter misspelling the word.
  • She didn’t recognize the problem when it was delivered and installed.
  • She could consult her crystal ball and ‘see’ I (and probably many others) were riding by and laughing at her ‘misfortune’.

“Dislpay Sold” – Advertising Sign

“Dislpay Sold”

I worked in a large retail establishment for 6 years. Always a good laugh there if you looked for it!

The first year I was there, someone had went through a bunch of display items, priced them at a good discount and placed them on a prominent isle table. They then printed out a set of signs to attract attention…… ‘Dislpay Sold’!!! All four sides. Great Display.

Nothing there moved very fast.

I noticed the sign but thought it was my dyslexia kicking in but…. I kept passing that nice display and realized the sign was misspelled. Evidently the customers didn’t understand it either and didn’t buy from there in spite of the deep discount.

Over time as the opportunities came, I would point it out to management, starting the supervisors. Nothing happened! Market manager didn’t even notice when he dropped by.

Thought it was all over until a year before I left. the same signs appeared on a isle shelving area.

Dislpay Sold!!!

In case you don’t get it, the sign should have said, “Display Sale”.

“where is everyone????”

“where is everyone????” – Fermi’s question

The age of the universe and its vast number of stars has led some to suggest that unless the rare Earth hypothesis holds true, extraterrestrial life should be common.

In an informal discussion in 1950, the physicist Enrico Fermi questioned why, if a multitude of advanced extraterrestrial civilizations exist in the Milky Way galaxy, evidence such as a flying saucer or Von Neumann probe have not yet been seen.

The Curious Case of the Word ‘Sonder’

sonder n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.
